About Our Church
Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Bellefonte, PA, has been serving the community and area since 1828. Formerly part of the Philadelphia Diocese, then later as part of the Harrisburg Diocese, in 1901, we became part of the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese. The oldest parish in the Centre and Clinton Counties, we claim seven daughter parishes, three granddaughter parishes, and one great granddaughter parish (now closed). We have been privilegded to serve Christ in spreading the Catholic faith to many people. We look forward, as a still vibrant parish, to work for the salvation of souls as a leading parish in Liturgy, Social Justice, and Religious Education. Our parish is proud of a Catholic Parochial School since 1890, along with an active Religious Education program, Christian Initiation program and Adult Education. There are even Catholic Homeschoolers present within our parish. Our Parish Fianance Council, Pastoral Council, Liturgy Council and School Council are all active in the mission of our parish.
